The Joe Biden connection on ‘Parks and Recreation’
On the show, Knope called Biden as the only other man who is as sexy as her on-screen husband Ben Wyatt (played by Adam Scott). She also described her ideal man as someone who has the brains of George Clooney and the body of Joe Biden.
In one of the episodes that aired in 2012, Knope got to meet her crush, Joe Biden, who was then the Vice President. As a surprise engagement present, Leslie’s fiancé Ben (Adam Scott) had arranged a meeting at the White House with Biden.
In the scene, the now-president-elect acknowledge Knope for the great job she was doing with her town and in the state of Indiana and congratulated her on her public service while holding her hands.

In a statement in 2012 to “The Huffington Post”, Poehler talked about how meeting Vice President Biden was a thrill for her and Leslie. She mentioned how Biden was a good sport and a great improviser. She jokingly expressed how the Vice President (Joe Biden) maintained his composure while she harassed him and invaded his personal space.
In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, creator Mike Schur, producer of ‘Parks and Recreation’, also spoke about how Vice President Biden was both Leslie’s political hero and her number-one celebrity crush, so meeting him was obviously a huge moment for Leslie Knope.

Joe Biden also made a special appearance in the final episode of the seventh season of ‘Parks and Recreation’. We saw Leslie and Ben moving to Washington DC. They also became friends with Joe Biden and his wife, Dr Jill Biden. In a scene, Amy Piehler stood in front of the White House with Ben and muttered “2020“, as the year she plans to become the President of the United States of America. To which her husband Ben said that it is a bit of a stretch. In the end, she settles for 2024.
Since Joe Biden’s presidency win, fans have been talking about this scene.
Joe Biden is a ‘Parks and Recreation’ fan?
After his cameo on ‘Parks and Recreation’, Joe Biden released a statement praising the show.
“My whole family loves ‘Parks and Recreation’ and I had a great time filming that scene. It was a real honour that in my sitcom debut I got to meet someone like Leslie Knope, who believes so deeply in public service. She’s an example for men and women across the country that there’s no higher calling than helping other people. On a personal note, I’ll never figure out how Leslie Knope got my home phone number, but that really just shows how committed she is.”
Even though ‘Parks and Recreation’ ended in 2017, it would have been interesting to see how Leslie Knope would have reacted to Biden’s win.
In an interview with SFGATE show’s creator, Mike Schur talked about how thrilled Leslie Knope would be. He talked about how Leslie loved progress and policy more than anything, so she would certainly have been a fan of Elizabeth Warren. He mentioned that there would have been aspects to a lot of candidates from Bernie to Cory Booker to Andrew Yang to Kamala Harris, that she would have supported and championed. But once the nominee would have been chosen, she would have done everything in her power to get Joe Biden elected.
