Why was ‘I’m Sorry’ Season 3 cancelled?
Creator and star Andrea Savage’s comedy series ‘I’m Sorry‘ was slated to air in 2020. The show was renewed for a third season that would consist of ten episodes. However, due to the unavoidable effects of the coronavirus pandemic, TruTV decided to opt-out. In a statement made to “Deadline”, the network said:
“Due to circumstances created by COVID, we, unfortunately, cannot move forward with production on the third season of ‘I’m Sorry’. We admire Andrea Savage’s irreverent voice and fresh take on parenthood and are so proud of the show she and her cast and crew created. She was a great partner for many years, and we truly wish everyone well”.
“Deadline” further reported that ‘I’m Sorry’ had already completed two weeks of shooting for season 3 around mid-March. The script for the new season had already been written. Andrea Savage along with the show’s other producers were considering scenarios for resuming production. Unfortunately, they had to put everything on hold after the call came from the network saying that ‘I’m Sorry’ had been cancelled.
In a statement, Savage mentioned that the team of ‘I’m Sorry’ is heartbroken after the decision. She further expressed how the show has been her second baby for almost five years. Though she does wish that people would be able to see the wonderful ten episodes they wrote this season. Savage mentioned how proud she is of the show they have created. It is exactly the show she wanted to make. This is why she was devastated that it would not be continuing. In the end, she thanked all the fans of ‘I’m Sorry’ for supporting them so incredibly over these past few years.
The pandemic has led to the shutdown of many shows trying to get back into production. However, one of the main reasons behind ‘I’m Sorry’ getting cancelled was that TruTV’s parent Warner Media was going through some major restructuring and cost-cutting.
Will ‘I’m Sorry’ be back for season 3?
In the middle of 2019, ‘I’m Sorry’ was renewed for a season 3. After the renewal, Savage said:
“I am so, so thrilled to have another season to prove wrong the theory that just because you are a mom, you are not allowed to find buttholes funny. #godswork.”
Sadly, the last we heard about ‘I’m Sorry’ was on 25th August 2020. TruTV still stands on its cancellation announcement, despite its earlier renewal.
Petition to bring back ‘I’m Sorry’ Season 3
As expected, fans of the show have not taken the decision too well. Since then, they have been running several petitions for a season 3 of ‘I’m Sorry’ online. They have been encouraging streaming platforms like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon, to bring back ‘I’m Sorry’ and air its already scripted third season. Fans have been constantly supporting the show to be picked up as it reminds them that adulthood does not have to be taken seriously.
Currently, there is no news, trailer, or update related to season 3 of ‘I’m Sorry’. Fans would have to sadly wait a little longer to see their favourite show return.
