Marvel Studios’ limited series Moon Knight is the hot cake in the fandom. As the series debuted on Disney+ on April 30th fans couldn’t keep calm and the first two episodes can tell you why. Star Wars veteran Oscar Isaac plays Moon Knight, a mercenary who is an avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu. Isaac plays a character who suffers from dissociative identity disorder hence playing two separate characters Marc Spector and Steven Grant. The first two episodes of the show had no references to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. And hence, MCU bestows RDJ’s responsibilities on Isaac – to own and lead a future superhero line-up of unknown characters.

Moon Knight Is Spinning Its Own Lil Darker Universe
With Moon Knight, MCU head Kevin Feige is trying to develop a darker corner in the well established MCU. Furthermore, the upcoming characters like Blade, and Black Knight among the others point to the possibility of the grouping Midnight Sons.
In an interview with Esquire, Isaac revealed, “We wanted everything to feel like it was an external expression of an internal struggle. And so the plot ties to other MCU things became much less important because the most important thing was an emotional truth to the journey that was happening.”
For long fans and experts alike have speculated that Midnight Sons will be Marvel’s venturing into darker stories. Many have complained over the years that MCU sticks to the ‘Disney formula’ for its success and things need to take a darker turn. And Moon Knight stands the test of a dark and mysterious feature that fans want to see. “It’s a risk,” Isaac told Esquire speaking of the violent nature of the show. “We’re creating a whole new thing.”
Episodes 1 & 2 have given fans enough action, mystery and blood that collective MCU hasn’t. Isaac has more creative input in the series than any other Marvel first-timer ever since Downey Jr. “I was in a position — because I wasn’t actively looking to get back into something this big — to say, ‘This is how I see it, and if you guys don’t see it that way, that’s totally okay, but then maybe it’s not the right fit. And so I wasn’t afraid that I was going to do the wrong thing.”
Isaac Can Own A Franchise
The actor who rose to prominence with Coen Brother’s Inside Llewyn Davis is not new to the franchise business or Marvel roles. He has played antagonist Apocalypse in Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Spider-Man 2099 in Sony’s Into the Spider-verse and is set to reprise it for the sequel Across the Spider-verse.
But Isaac admitted he was hesitant to join a big IP since Star Wars. And that unlike previous Marvel alums like RDJ, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth – Isaac does not have a long term contract which for now rules out Moon Knight’s appearance in any other project. Apart from donning the superhero cape, his recent works include Scenes From A Marriage, Dune (part one), The Letter Room, The Card Counter and more.
