The critically acclaimed FX series returns for a fourth season, chronicling the lives of four main characters as they are entangled with each other during the crack epidemic of the 1980s.
What began as a fictional narrative set around the Crack Epidemic of 1983, turned into a character study of people affected by it as the drugs-related crimes soared. ‘Snowfall‘, although began pretty slow on the critical scale, began gaining appreciation from the second season onwards and as the third season came to an end in September 2019, the season finale left the viewers with a bitter taste in their mouths.

The show had quite interestingly weaved the narrative around four main characters, Franklin Saint, El Oso, Agent Teddy McDonald, and Lucia Villanueva. However, all the stories play a key role in the show’s central conflict, it was the young dreamy-eyed drugs peddler cum entrepreneur Franklin Saint that eventually became the backbone of the show.
There are many reasons for that, the number one reason being that many Americans could relate to Franklin’s journey and struggle, on a deeper level, and his odyssey from rags to riches. Our anti-hero, played deliciously well by Damson Idris, hangs between life and death, thanks to Melody’s obsession with the thought that Franklin was behind her father’s death. The story arc became tragic when she shot Franklin in the back, which was a moment that had the show’s fans gasping for many minutes after the episode ended. However, he survived.
Season 3 ended on a high note and as season 4’s release is right around the corner, after getting delayed for a few months due to the pandemic, we are ready to jump right into the action in the shady neighbourhoods of Los Angeles to see what our favourite characters are up to.
Reading about fan theories, we can safely assume that Franklin’s story arc will consume most of the screen-time in the new season. From a poor young drug peddler to a hot-shot businessman, Franklin has come a long way and has become one of the most adored anti-heroes on television. Despite killing many, and ordering many hits and making a huge chunk of the population getting hooked to cocaine, Franklin is still the character fans of the show have been rooting for. We can’t wait to see how the newly acquired money and fame treats Franklin.
Can the relationships they shared with each other be trusted?
One of the most crucial aspects of the series is the relationship shared between Franklin and Mel and it would be interesting to see what happened to Mel as she practically disappeared from the show after she shot the man she once loved to bits. Did Franklin kill her? Or did she handed herself over to the police? This arc is something that the show’s fans are eagerly waiting to explore. In addition, there is still the question of Teddy, whom Franklin had extended his hands towards. Can he be trusted, or does another tragedy await Franklin in Snowfall season 4?
Another important story arc that was left untouched by the creators was that of Lucia. After playing one of the central roles in the development of the storyline in the first two seasons, Lucia’s abrupt absence from the action irked the viewers. One more character whose fate is yet to be decided is Jerome, who tried walking on the righteous path after getting worked up by the authorities in season 3. However, his girlfriend and his nephew are still pretty much a part of the game and this stands as a huge roadblock in Jerome’s way of leading a normal life.
Will season 4 finally give us the answers to all the questions that season 3 raised? It is yet to be seen. The urban community of South Central is about to be introduced to the drug menace that was only pestering the ghettos of the town until now. It will be interesting to see how the writers juice up the conflict in the upcoming seasons.
The cast for ‘Snowfall’ Season 4 is expected to be the same, with Damson Idris reprising Franklin Saint, Carter Hudson as Teddy McDonald, Emily Rios as Lucia Villanueva, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta as the Mexican wrestler Gustavo El Oso Zapata.
Is season 5 already under production?
Season 4 of ‘Snowfall’ is yet to be released and the speculations for a season 5 are already underway. The makers haven’t given official confirmation of the renewal of ‘Snowfall’ for a fifth season. However, given the high ratings, the show has been showered with for the past few seasons, and given the ‘high’ that the storyline is on, we can assume that season 5 will be announced right after the release of the season 4.
As the final countdown for the premiere of Snowfall season 4 begins, we can’t wait to see how the several threads that the show has opened in the last few seasons are weaved. But going with the trailer, we can expect a delicious mixture of action-packed sequences, high octane emotions, and consistent character developments.
