: With growth expected to continue for Indian manufacturing sector in Jan-March Q-4 2022-23, there are signs that cost pressure witnessed in the last many months seems to be softening a bit for the sector, notes latest FICCI Manufacturing Survey.
FICCI’s latest quarterly survey on Manufacturing reveals that after experiencing revival of Indian economy in the FY 2021-22, momentum of growth has continued for the subsequent quarters of FY 2022-23 with some temporary effect of global slowdown on Indian manufacturing. In the Q3 Oct-Dec FY 2022-23, 58% of the respondents reported higher production levels. Growth outlook continues, though lower sequentially. Further, around 50% of the respondents expect a higher level of production in Q4 Jan-Mar 2022-23 with an average increase in production in double digits. This assessment is also reflective in order books as 52% of the respondents in Q-3 Oct-Dec 2022-23 have had higher number of orders and demand conditions continue to be optimistic in Q-4 too.
There seems to be some softening of cost pressures on manufacturers in Q-4 note FICCI survey. The cost of production as a percentage of sales for manufacturers in the survey has risen for 73% respondents, which is lower than 94% as reported in previous survey. Nonetheless, high raw material prices especially that of steel, increased transportation, logistics and freight cost, and rise in the prices of crude oil and fuel have been the main contributors to increasing cost of production. Other factors responsible for escalating production costs include enhanced labor costs, high cost of carrying inventory, and fluctuation in the foreign exchange rate.

FICCI’s latest quarterly survey assessed the sentiments of manufacturers for Q-4 Jan-March (2022-23) for eleven major sectors namely Automotive & Auto Components, Capital Goods, Cement, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Electronics, Machine Tools, Metal & Metal Products, Paper Products, Petrochemicals & Fertilizers, Textiles, Apparels & Technical Textiles, Textile Machinery and Miscellaneous. Responses have been drawn from over 400 manufacturing units from both large and SME segments with a combined annual turnover of over Rs. 10 lakh crores.
Capacity Addition & Utilization
The existing average capacity utilization in manufacturing is around 75% which reflects a sustained economic activity in the sector. In fact, this is more than 70% capacity utilization reported for previous survey.
The future investment outlook has also improved as compared to previous quarter as over 47% respondents reported plans for investments and expansions in the coming six months. This is also an improvement over the previous survey where only 40% reported plans for investments in next six months. The table below, gives average capacity utilization for various sub-sectors of manufacturing.

However, global economic uncertainty caused by the Russia-Ukraine warand increasing cases of various mutations of COVID virus in other countries continue added to volatilities in supply chain and demand.
Increased cost of finance, cumbersome regulations and clearances, high logistics cost due to high fuel prices, low global demand, high volume of cheap imports into India, shortage of skilled labor, highly volatile prices of certain metals etc. and other supply chain disruptions are some of the major constraints which are affecting expansion plans of the respondents.
Inventories
87% of the respondents had either more or same level of inventory in Q-3 Oct-December 2022-23, which is equivalent to that of the previous quarter. In Q-4 Jan-March 2022-23, about 90% of the respondents are expecting higher or same level of inventory.
Exports
The outlook for exports seems to be waning as about 36% of the respondents reported higher exports in Q-3 Oct-Dec 2022-23 as compared to the Q3 Oct-Dec of FY 2021-22. Furthermore, only about 30% of the respondents expect their exports to be higher in Q4 Jan-Mar 2022-23 as compared to Q4 Jan-Mar 2021-22.
Hiring
Hiring outlook though positive, remains below potential as only 32% of the respondents were looking at hiring additional workforce in the next three months.
Interest Rate
Average interest rate paid by the manufacturers has increased to 9.38% p.a. as against 8.37% p.a. during last quarter and the highest rate at which loan has been raised is 15% p.a. Over 71% of the respondents have reported that increase in repo rates in the last few months has led to a consequential increase in the lending rate by their banks, thereby increasing their cost of borrowing.
Sectoral Growth
Based on expectations, Auto, Capital Goods, Cement, Electronics & Petrochemicals & Fertilizers sectors are poised to see a strong growth. Rest all the sectors are expected to register moderate to low growth in Q-4 2022-23 as given in the table below.

This World Glaucoma Week, Allergan, an AbbVie company, came together with renowned experts in the field of ophthalmology to emphasise the importance of early detection and treatment of glaucoma to prevent eye impairment. The experts also shed light on the essential measures for managing risk and prevention techniques, as well as the latest developments in treatment.
World Glaucoma Week is celebrated annually in March to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment of glaucoma. World Glaucoma Week serves as an important platform to draw attention to the growing public health concern of glaucoma and the need for improved eye health systems to prevent vision impairment. It is a reminder of the urgent need for increased efforts to prevent, diagnose, and treat glaucoma to ensure a brighter future for individuals and communities affected by this devastating eye disease.
Globally, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness after cataracts. It is estimated to cause blindness in 4.5 million people worldwide, whereas in India, out of 12 million people who are suffering from glaucoma, 1.2 million people are blind owing to this disease as per 2012 statistics. Despite this, glaucoma is largely undiagnosed, with more than 90 percent of untreated cases. It has become a growing cause of concern for the country. Being a progressive and irreversible condition of blindness, early detection and management is of utmost importance.
Glaucoma is an eye conditions that can lead to vision loss if left untreated. It is a disease that damages the optic nerve, which transmits visual information from the eye to the brain. Glaucoma typically progresses slowly over time and can cause gradual loss of peripheral vision, eventually leading to blindness if not treated.
Adding about the current glaucoma situation in India, Dr. Maneesh Singh, Director, Netralayam, The Super-speciality Eye care centre said “The prevalence of glaucoma in India varies between rural and urban areas. This can be attributed to several factors, such as lifestyle changes, increased life expectancy, and The burden of glaucoma in India is expected to increase in the coming years due to several factors such as an aging population, lifestyle changes, and an increase in chronic diseases like diabetes, which is a risk factor for glaucoma. Therefore, it is essential to increase awareness about glaucoma, improve access to eye care services, and develop effective screening programs, particularly in rural areas.”
Dr. Debasis Chakrabarti, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Glaucoma and Cataract Services, at Centre For Sight, Kolkata added “There are numerous myths and false beliefs regarding glaucoma that may discourage people from getting the treatment and care they need. The idea that glaucoma only affects older people is among the most common misconceptions about the disease. Although elderly people are indeed more likely to get glaucoma, it can afflict anyone at any age, including infants and young adults. In addition, regardless of age, those with a family history of the illness are at a higher risk. The idea that glaucoma primarily affects those with high eye pressure is another widespread myth. Even though having high eye pressure increases your risk of developing glaucoma, it’s not the sole risk factor. “
It is essential to emphasise the necessity of yearly eye exams in order to detect glaucoma early and prevent visual loss. Highlighting the importance of timely intervention, Dr. Rishi Jain, Medical Director, Allergan an AbbVie Company said “Early detection is key to prevent vision loss, as once lost it cannot be reversed. Visit an ophthalmologist at least once every year to get your eyes checked. The early symptoms of glaucoma are normally detectable during an eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Tonometry, ophthalmoscopy, and perimetry are simple tests for detecting increased eye pressure (tonometry), optic nerve damage (ophthalmoscopy), and vision loss (perimetry). Additionally, your doctor may perform other procedures, such as gonioscopy and pachymetry, which measure the angle between the cornea and iris.”
Dr. Partha Biswas, Medical Director, Trenetralaya, Kolkata and Chairperson, Scientific Committee, All India Ophthalmology Society elaborated on the various measures that can help reduce the risk of developing glaucoma. “Regular eye exams are essential for identifying glaucoma early before any serious damage occurs. Every year, those over 40 should undergo a comprehensive eye exam, and those at higher risk (such as those with a family history of the condition) should get check-ups more frequently. Early detection by regular eye check up is the best way of tackling glaucoma. Another crucial aspect of glaucoma prevention is protecting the eyes from injury. Lastly managing underlying medical issues like diabetes and high blood sugar should be managed well in patients with glaucoma.
Proper and timely treatment can prevent further blindness. It is advisable to visit an ophthalmologist for regular preventive eye check-ups who can conduct special tests as needed and suggest treatment by medicines, lasers or glaucoma surgery. Allergan, an AbbVie company, is committed to raising awareness about this important issue.
Club Playoffs: Diego Mauricio’s Hat-Trick Helps Odisha FC Win 3-1, Qualify For AFC Cup Group Stage
Diego Mauricio struck a hat-trick by scoring in the 18th minute, 31st and 53rd minute via a penalty, as Odisha FC defeated local giants Gokulam Kerala FC 3-1 in the Club Playoffs to seal a spot in the AFC Cup 2023-24 Group Stage on Saturday.
Kozhikode, April 30: Diego Mauricio struck a hat-trick by scoring in the 18th minute, 31st and 53rd minute via a penalty, as Odisha FC defeated local giants Gokulam Kerala FC 3-1 in the Club Playoffs to seal a spot in the AFC Cup 2023-24 Group Stage on Saturday.
The result has given the team, who finished sixth in the Indian Super League (ISL), a spot in Asian competition, on the back of an outstanding two weeks at the fag end of the season.
While in the league, they, quite like their opponents on Saturday, played in fits and starts, never really putting together a good enough run of form to really challenge for the title, over the last two weeks they have done just that. Insofar as the month of April goes, Odisha have enjoyed a spring unlike any other. They have laid siege to Kozhikode and now having won the Super Cup, put a continental cherry on a brilliant cake.
It didn’t take long for them to do so either, with Odisha stamping their authority on the game right from the referee’s whistle. They were quicker on the ball and even more authoritative without it. The first chance, ironically though, didn’t fall their way. Gokulam, who played most of the game as a counter-attacking unit, came at them through a Thahir Zaman corner, perfectly curled for Aminou Bouba in the six-yard area. The Cameroonian put his header high and wide.
Gokulam were made to pay for their errors, in more ways than one. In the 18th minute from a seemingly innocuous throw-in on the left touchline, Nandha Kumar dummied, Victor Romero spun and Diego Mauricio was through one-on-one. The Brazilian finished to notch his 20th goal in all competitions and give Odisha the lead. It was a goal that was built on simplicity but also exposed a Gokulam defence that had gone to bed.
Suddenly Odisha started running riot, Mauricio, Mawihmingthanga and Romero combining to create a host of opportunities and keep the Gokulam defence on their toes. Romero came closest just before the half-hour mark, curling a free kick from a narrow-angle on the left onto the crossbar.
In the 31st minute, Mauricio got his second, dribbling but also bulldozing his way through Gokulam’s left side to double the lead. The second woke up Gokulam and roused them from their inept slumber into something resembling passing football.
Suddenly Zaman and Sergio Mendigutxia were playing combinations and throwing Odisha’s comfortable defence off their game. When the goal arrived in the 36th minute, it came off the head of Farshad Noor, Zaman doing all the work on the right before delivering a perfect cross home.
Within minutes Zaman himself had a chance to equalise, arriving perfectly to head a cross from the left. His attempt though was high. To Odisha’s relief, halftime arrived just as the game’s momentum had shifted, giving them a chance to breathe and reset.
And reset they did, surging into halftime imperious again. Almost immediately, Romero conjured up another chance, and again, the frame of the goal proved to be his undoing, the post denying him this time.
It wouldn’t matter. Pawan Kumar needlessly tugged on and brought down Diego Mauricio on the edge of the box in the 52nd minute, giving Odisha a penalty and a chance to restore their two-goal cushion. Mauricio didn’t miss it. His 22nd goal of the season was enough for Odisha to regain momentum and see the game out. An April filled with joy will see them debut in Asia now.

AS IT HAPPENED | Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2023
New Delhi: Mitchell Marsh dished out one of his finest all-round performances but it wasn’t enough as Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to winning ways with a comprehensive nine-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL here on Saturday.
The hard-hitting Australian all-rounder first snapped four wickets and then blasted six maximums in his 39-ball 63-run knock to conjure up hopes of a successful chase but once he was out, things went downhill for the hosts on the sluggish Kotla track.
Batting first, Abhishek Sharma slammed a 36-ball 67 to set the stage for Heinrich Klaasen, who provided the final flourish with an unbeaten 53 as SRH posted an impressive 197 for 6.
In reply, Delhi lost skipper David Warner for a second-ball duck but Philip Salt (59) and Marsh took the attack to the opposition with a 112-run partnership off just 66 balls to lay a solid ground to their run chase.
With the duo in full flow, 57 runs came in the powerplay as left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein conceded 30 in his three overs.
Marsh clobbered Umran Malik for two maximums and Salt produced two good hits to amass 22 runs off the over, while Abhishek was punished for bowling wrong length with Marsh slamming a four and six.
An incredible caught and bowled effort from Mayank Markande finally broke the partnership with Salt back in the pavilion. Soon, Abhishek got rid of Manish Pandey and when Marsh holed out to Markram off Hosein, it left DC at 125 for 4 in the 14th over.
Needing 69 off 36 balls, SRH tightened the screws to limit DC to 188 for six in 20 overs with Axar Patel scoring 29 off 14 balls.
With the win, SRH snapped their three-match losing streak to remain alive in the competition. They are bow in the eighth spot with six points, while DC stayed at the bottom.
Earlier, back at the top, Abhishek seemed to be batting on a different track, slamming 12 fours and a six, even as the others struggled on the two-paced wicket.
While the southpaw looked in good rhythm, the rest of the top and middle order continued to disappoint, scoring in single digits.
But Klaasen’s 27-ball-knock ensured that momentum is not lost with as many as 62 runs coming off last five overs.
The South African added 53 of 33 balls with Abdul Samad (28 off 21 balls) and 35 off 18 balls with Akeal Hosein (16 off 10 balls) as SRH posted the highest score at the Kotla this season.
For DC, Mitchell Marsh was the best bowler in display, returning with figures of 4-1-27-4, while Axar Patel (1/29) picked up a solitary wicket. Ishant Sharma also got one but he was expensive in his three overs.
The stylish Abhishek was particularly harsh on Ishant Sharma, picking up back-to-back boundaries before pulling him for another four in the midwicket region.
Mayank Agarwal, however, didn’t look comfortable and his misery was ended by Ishant with a well-directed bouncer. Rahul Tripathi sent one from Mukesh Kumar over the keeper for a six before falling to Mitchell Marsh.
Ishant was again on the firing line of Abhishek, who smashed him for four boundaries more in the sixth over as 16 runs came off it, helping SRH to end the powerplay at 62 for 2.
Kuldeep Yadav could have dismissed Abhishek but Anrich Nortje spilled a regulation catch at the boundary and the opener rubbed salt on the bowler’s wound with a slogsweep for a maximum to bring up his fifty. Abhishek took 25 balls to reach the milestone.
Marsh was rewarded for bowling his cutters and back of length scrambled seam deliveries as he dismissed Markram and Harry Brook in a double wicket maiden over. Sunrisers reached 83 for 4 in 10 overs.
Medium pacer Mukesh Kumar was next taken to the cleaners with Abhishek smashing two fours in the first two balls and Klaasen clobbering him for a four and maximum.
The 11th over yielded 24 runs, taking SRH over the 100-mark in the process.
Abhishek was finally dismissed in the 12th over when he tried to go for a slog off Axar. Klaasen then teed off during the death overs to ensure an above-par score for visitors.
Diet Tips For Women: How Much Protein Do Women Need In Their Diet? Expert Reveals!
Getting enough protein may help women manage their weight, reduce their risk of heart attacks, and maintain proper bone strength.
Diet Tips For Women: Women’s dietary protein requirements are just as important as those of men’s. Consuming protein helps you live a healthy lifestyle and builds muscles, which improves your level of fitness. Protein contains amino acids, which are known as the building blocks of the human body, including the cells and muscle tissues. Because of this, it is crucial for women to eat a balanced diet that contains all the essential amino acids required for a fit and healthy life. Dietitian and nutritionist at OZiva, Shikha Dwivedi explains the benefits of protein for women as well as the dosage that is advised.
WHY DO WOMEN NEED PROTEIN?
Protein plays a significant role in producing the enzymes necessary for food digestion and absorption as well as hormone regulation and it aids in the proper flow of oxygen and blood. Women’s bodies have higher fat mass and a smaller percentage of lean mass than men’s. It is already common knowledge that each type of protein is extremely distinctive in the types of amino acids it contains. It becomes essential for women to eat a variety of proteins in order to supply the body with a wide spectrum of amino acids.
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED DOSAGE OF PROTEIN FOR WOMEN?
The protein intake will differ for different people, and it will be different for women depending on certain factors. Certain aspects like height, weight, age, overall well-being, and activity levels all come into play when determining the right amount of protein intake. According to reports, on a daily basis, women should consume at least 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of their body weight. Now, the protein can be consumed through food products or even additional supplements. As far as the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) goes for an average sedentary female, it’s 46 grams of protein per day.
However, that may differ according to the needs of different women. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are generally athletes may need higher protein consumption, as compared to other women. This is why, regardless of the set protein requirements, one should consult with a medical professional for the advised dosage of protein most suitable for them.
HOW TO CONSUME PROTEIN?
It can be established that protein has multiple needs for women. It can be used for losing weight, maintaining muscle mass, increasing strength, and enhancing your lifestyle. So, what’s the best way of consuming it? In order to ensure sufficient protein intake, women can turn to nuts and seeds, legumes, tofu, quinoa, and vegetables like spinach, kale, broccoli, and sprouts, which are high in protein. All these ensure an adequate supply of essential amino acids for your body to function smoothly.
Women can also choose to consume protein supplements that are packed with essential multivitamins, minerals, and ayurvedic herbal extracts. These supplements are certified clean protein and aid women in controlling their weight, energy, lean muscle and enhancing their metabolism. Women can go for certified clean protein powders to help meet an individual’s daily protein requirements. As every woman has unique goals, physiology, and preferences, they must choose the suitable protein powder that suits their body type.
The herbal extracts Shatavari, Tulsi, and Curcumin, as well as the potent multivitamins and multi-minerals Biotin, Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and B-Vitamins in these products, have all been proven to improve women’s strength in addition to enhancing hormonal balance.
How Chronic Stress Can Impact Physical & Mental Health?
Stress has been shown to have an impact on practically every system in the body, not just one’s mental health.
Stress has been ingrained in daily life as a result of the hurried lifestyle, peer pressure, scholastic and occupational demands, and difficulties. As per WHO, stress is a state of mental worry or tension arising out of a difficult situation When this state of worry becomes consistent and continuous to the extent that one feels pressurized and overwhelmed over a long period, results in chronic stress. Dr B.Unnikrishnan, Dean & Dr Nithin Kumar, Associate Professor of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal reveals how chronic stress can impact mental and physical health.
CHRONIC STRESS SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Stress can manifest in many forms ranging from fear, and anxiety to irritability, and includes a plethora of physical symptoms like headache, body pain, change in eating habits, irritable bowel, and difficulty in falling asleep. Continuous or repeated stress (chronic) stress can also affect the heart rate and blood pressure, thereby increasing the risk of hypertension. It can also predispose an individual to use alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, thereby increasing their dependency. When these symptoms become persistent, they will affect the daily functioning of an individual, at the workplace or school resulting in poor mental health outcomes like depression.
Longstanding stress can affect the physical and mental well-being of an individual and predispose him/her to a variety of conditions which can include the following:
Cardiovascular conditions like high blood pressure
Metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes
Addiction to the Internet, food, or gambling
Addiction to alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs like anti-anxiety drugs
Anxiety, insomnia, and depression
HOW DOES STRESS AFFECT VARIOUS SYSTEMS OF OUR BODY?
Musculoskeletal System: During the episode of stress, our muscle gets tensed or contracted, which is the body’s defence mechanism protecting us from injury. Chronic stress results in the body being in a constant state of tension. This is more evident with stress-induced headaches where the muscles of the neck and shoulders are tensed.
Respiratory System: The smooth respiratory muscles between the nose and lungs can also get contracted during acute episodes of stress or emotional outburst manifesting as sudden difficulty in breathing or fast breathing. Emotional or stressful outbursts are more problematic among individuals with existing respiratory problems like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Cardiovascular System: The effect of stress on the cardiovascular system is well documented, with stress being identified as one of the modifiable risk factors for high blood pressure. Stressful events bring about the release of so-called stress hormones – adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol which prepare the body for emergencies. The release of these hormones is associated with a rise in heart rate and elevation of blood pressure, which falls back to baseline once the stressful event has passed.
Gastrointestinal System: An uncomfortable feeling when anxious or under stress is due to the stimulation of millions of neurons in the gut. However, excessive stress can affect this communication between the GI system and the brain which can manifest as pain, bloating acid-reflux disease, and gastritis.
Male Reproductive System: Stress over an extended period can result in low testosterone production which in turn can manifest in the form of decreased libido or erectile dysfunction. It can also affect the sperm count and its maturation, resulting in difficulty in conceiving among couples.
Female Reproductive System: Menstrual irregularities along with painful periods among adolescent girls and women are usually associated with stress. Prolonged periods of stress can affect a woman’s ability to conceive and may affect her antenatal and postnatal health. During menopause, women experience a variety of symptoms which include anxiety, mood swings, and feeling of distress. This can further increase the emotional stress in the women.
IPL 2023: Athiya Shetty Cheering For KL Rahul During PBKS vs LSG Game in Mohali is EPIC | WATCH
ipl 2023: It was Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty who made headlines with her presence at the venue to root for her husband, KL Rahul.
Mohali: While the Lucknow Super Giants made merry at Mohali’s IS Bindra stadium on Friday, it wasn’t the cricketers that stole the show. It was Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty who made headlines with her presence at the venue to root for her husband, KL Rahul. This is not the first time she has been spotted at a cricketing venue. She also proved to bring luck for the Super Giants who won the game by 56 runs against Punjab Kings. Athiya was spotted clapping when Prabhsimran Singh perished.
Here is the clip of Athiya Shetty that is now going viral:
With this win. LSG jumped to the second spot in the 10-team standings with 10 points in eight outings while Punjab placed sixth with eight points to their kitty.
Attacking fifties from Marcus Stoinis (72 off 40) and Kyle Mayers (54 off 24) set the foundation for LSG’s massive total. Then Ayush Badoni 43 off 24 and Nicholas Pooran’s 19-ball 45 quickfire took Lucknow to 257/5 on the board, second highest total in IPL history.
In defence, bowlers came up with a brilliant show as Ravi Bishnoi (2/41) bowled brilliantly in the middle overs to pick two wickets. Yash Thakur (4/37) and Naveen-ul-Haq (3/30) then executed their plans in the slog overs to seal a big win for LSG.
“It is so against the T20 trend. Can’t put a finger on it. Happy that we got the win. Every game from now on would be very important. We had a break after the last game. We came back fresher after that. We were clear as to how to bat. When you see such wickets, you get excited as batters. Getting 250 speaks highly of how we batted,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.
IPL 2023: Openers In Other Teams Better Than Prithvi Shaw, Admits Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting
Prithvi Shaw scored just 47 runs for Delhi Capitals in six games in IPL 2023.
New Delhi: Prithvi Shaw’s pre-tournament net sessions had convinced Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting that a breakthrough IPL season awaited him but he now has to admit that lot of openers in other IPL teams are performing better than the colourful Mumbai batter.
Shaw has been dropped after playing six games and it is unlikely that DC will go back to him anytime soon. “I think it’s 13 games (considering IPL 2022 as well) since Prithvi has made a 50 opening the batting for the Delhi capitals.
“There are a lot of other players at the top of the order with other teams that are playing a whole lot better than Prithvi,” Ponting said ahead of team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. Shaw scored just 47 runs in six games in this IPL.
“Prithvi at his absolute best we know he’s a match winner. That’s one of the reasons that he’s a retained player because we know if he bats a certain amount of balls, we win about 95% of the games,” he said.
“But so far this season, he hasn’t been able to produce. I think the six games that he played was just over 40-odd runs, so that’s not what we require right now. So is it a tough decision to leave him out but hopefully the team that we put on the park tomorrow can go win another game for us.”
“When he arrived this year, he’d been at the NCA for quite a few weeks working really hard on his fitness he turned up in good physical shape and his work ethic and training and everything in the nets suggested to me that this might be just that big year for him but that hasn’t worked out just yet.”
Even playing England’s Phil Salt hasn’t worked for Capitals this season. “We needed to try and find a bit of a spark at the top of the order and Phil Salt moved up there the last game but that didn’t quite work as well,” Ponting said.
Ponting is hopeful Shaw can finish things on a high if he gets another chance. “But saying that there’s a long way to go and if things don’t work out with our current top order, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be back in the team and hopefully can finish the tournament off really strongly.”
IPL 2023: Dhruv Jurel Over-The-Moon to be Sharing Field With MS Dhoni During RR vs CSK
IPL 2023: Following the win, Jurel said he was just happy because Dhoni was behind him and watching him bat.
Jaipur: Who is not an MS Dhoni fan? Young Dhruv Jurel was in awe after he shared the field with the CSK captain on Thursday at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur. The right-handed batting sensation hit a quickfire 34 off 15 balls to power the Royals past 200 for the first time ever in IPL at the venue. Eventually, the Royals reigned supreme in Jaipur as they won the game by 32 runs. Following the win, Jurel said he was just happy because Dhoni was behind him and watching him bat.
“I am very fortunate enough to share the same field withMS Dhonisir. I have been seeing him playing since I was a child. He’s my biggest motivation. I am motivated knowing that He is standing behind me and watching me. That is enough for me,” said Jurel.
“My mantra is to bat and rest will take care of itself. I just played the situation. I’ve done three-four hours batting every day. I make sure I’m getting something from my batting,” Jurel said during the post-match conference.
In fact, it was Dhoni who brought the curtains on Jurel’s innings with a direct hit to run him out.
“Winning this game was needed for the team atmosphere and for the fans, also our first win in Jaipur. We can’t go one dimensional; if you’re playing in Chinnaswamy or Wankhede, you will chase but looking at the conditions here, I took the chance to bat first,” said Samson after the win.
The win takes the Royals a step closer to making the playoffs. The Royals with five wins in eight games are top of the points table.
IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar SLAMS Ambati Rayudu, Questions Impact Player Rule After RR Beat CSK
IPL 2023: Not only did Gavaskar have a problem with his shot selection of the second ball of his innings, the ex-India opener also questioned the Impact Player rule.
Jaipur: It was a night to forget for Chennai Super Kings as they lost by 32 runs against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Maan Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday. Chasing 203 to win, Chennai needed a flying start which is something they did not get, thanks to some very disciplined bowling from the Royals outfit. While fingers are being pointed, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed veteran batter Ambati Rayudu for his two-ball duck. Not only did Gavaskar have a problem with his shot selection of the second ball of his innings, the ex-India opener also questioned the Impact Player rule.
“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,” Gavaskar said on commentary when Rayudu got out.
Going against the set template and opting to bat first, the Royals rode on breathtaking Jaiswal’s 43-ball 77 to reach a record 202 for five. Jaiswal and Jos Buttler (27 off 21) shared 86 runs in 8.2 overs as RR made a brilliant start.
Winning skipper Sanju Samson was full of praise for Jaiswal, Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal’s aggressive batting.
“This is a win the team and dugout really wanted. The way youngsters Jaiswal, Devdutt, Jurel batted was outstanding, the mindset of attack, attack and attack is something we will keep promoting in the dressing room.
“Credit goes to the team management and support staff (for working with players like Jaiswal) who work very hard at the academy. Lot of work has gone behind his success. Proud of the way he’s playing,” he said.

Men’s International Players Reached Out By IPL Teams For Informal Long-Term Contracts: Report
Many players featuring in men’s international cricket from various countries have been reached out by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises about the possibility of long-term contracts which could see them play for the team’s multiple franchises in various T20 leagues.
New Delhi, April 27: Many players featuring in men’s international cricket from various countries have been reached out by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises about the possibility of long-term contracts which could see them play for the team’s multiple franchises in various T20 leagues.
As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, though the nature of discussions has been informal, they do raise the possibility of a players’ employers being an IPL franchise, rather than a full-member board nation.
“There have been informal conversations between some franchises and players about being available to play in multiple tournaments. That can take a different shape and form for different players. But it should come as no surprise to anyone in cricket that these conversations are happening and that players will have these sorts of options in the future,” Heath Mills, executive chairman of FICA, the global players’ body, was quoted as saying in the report.
This comes after British newspaper The Times reported on Tuesday that six England players, including some international cricketers, were approached by IPL franchise owners for long-term deals, with the amount ranging between 2-5 million pounds.
Mills also said, according to the report, that conversations like this are not just in England but in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies too.
“Without going into the specifics of individual conversations, they are about a player being available to play for a franchise in different T20 leagues.”
“A franchise might have three or four teams globally, so they might want the player in multiple competitions — as opposed to just the IPL. It’s not necessarily about signing a player up for all competitions exclusively but rather additional ones to their IPL team.”
The possibility of such a scenario becoming a reality had been around since the spread of IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders into new leagues in the West Indies (CPL), UAE (ILT20), South Africa (SA20) and now in the United States of America through Major Cricket League T20 league.
