At Queen Elizabeth II’s Vigil, Prince Harry wears military uniform for the first time since stepping down as Senior Royal.
Prince Harry wore his military uniform during a vigil for Queen Elizabeth II. He had been granted permission by King Charles III to wear the uniform. The Duke of Sussex took part in a 15-minute honor guard with other royals and military personnel at Windsor Castle on Saturday night.

On Saturday, September 17, the Duke of Sussex, 38, marched behind older brother Prince William as they entered Westminster Hall. Both wore military uniforms as they took their positions on opposite ends of the queen’s casket. Their cousins, Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall (née Phillips), Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louise Windsor, and James, Viscount Severn, joined Prince Harry and the Prince William.
The queen and the late Prince Philip’s eight grandchildren then held a minute’s silence in her Majesty’s memory, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

While William and Harry’s cousins all donned mourning attire on Saturday, it was unclear if Harry would wear a black suit or his military uniform. Harry’s honorary military titles were withdrawn once he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their position as senior royals in 2020.
Harry, who served in the British military for ten years, was forbidden from wearing his uniform to the Westminster Hall procession on September 14, just like his uncle Prince Andrew.
Andrew, on the other hand, was only permitted to wear a military uniform for a vigil for his late mother on Friday, September 16. Andrew, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward all wore uniforms as they took turns guarding their late mother’s coffin.
Despite an early exception for Andrew — Harry was still barred from wearing his own outfit. Buckingham Palace, however, changed its mind just a day before the vigil and allowed Harry to wear the uniform.
