In a move that is in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of driving growth of eastern India; several key infrastructure projects in the oil & gas and road sectors, worth over Rs. 4700 crore will be dedicated to the nation today by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. His Excellency, Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar; Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms. Mamata Banerjee; Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan; Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Babul Supriyo; and Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Ms. Debasree Chaudhuri, are scheduled to attend the function.
The key infrastructure projects to be inaugurated today are in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Purvodaya of driving growth of eastern India. West Bengal is going to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Purvodaya vision which is being implemented in mission mode to bring the state, and eastern India overall, at par with other developed states of the country. These projects will create economic opportunities for the youth of West Bengal through direct and indirect employment generation.
- A)An important project that will be dedicated to the nation today by the Hon’ble Prime Minister is the LPG import terminal built by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. With a capacity of 1 MMTPA, the LPG import terminal will cater to the growing demand of LPG in the eastern region. By supplying LPG to about 2 crore consumers in West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, UP and North-eastern States, this import facility will help realize the vision of PM Modi to provide clean cooking LPG to every household. This 1 MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum) LPG import terminal has been built at Haldia at an approx. investment of Rs. 1100 crore. With the commissioning of this project, Haldia has emerged as one of the important hubs in the country for LPG import. It may be noted that Haldia already has an LPG import terminal run by IPPL with a capacity of 2.7 MMTPA. With the commissioning of BPCL’s 1 million MTPA terminal, the LPG import capacity at Haldia will be substantially augmented. This project generated direct & indirect employment of about 15 lakh man-days.

- B)Hon’ble Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation 348-km long Dobhi-Durgapur natural gas pipeline. This pipeline is a part of the ambitious Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Dobhi-Durgapur pipeline has been built at a cost of about Rs. 2400 crore by GAIL with a capacity of 8 MMSCMD of natural gas and passes through the states of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. It marks an important milestone towards achieving ‘one nation, one gas grid.’ This pipeline project will help revive the Sindri (Jharkhand) fertilizer plant of Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Ltd. (HURL), besides supplying gas to Matix fertilizer plant at Durgapur. It will also supply Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to households, commercial establishments and industries, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to vehicles in many cities and districts in the region, including cities of Purulia, Asansol and Durgapur in West Bengal. This project generated direct & indirect employment of about 11 lakh man-days.

- C)On the occasion, Hon’ble PM would lay the foundation stone of the second Catalytic Iso-Dewaxing unit (CIDW) at the Haldia Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. This unit, with a capacity of 270 thousand metric tonnes per annum (TMTPA), is estimated to cost 1019 crore and will produce advanced Group III Lubes Oil Base Stock (LOBS), which will be the first-of-its-kind installation in India. Once commissioned, this will lead to import-substitution in the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Currently around 70% of LOBS requirement is being met through imports. With the commissioning of CIDW at Haldia Refinery, LOBS production in the country will be enhanced and LOBS import dependence will reduce by around 8%. This project is expected to result in saving of valuable foreign exchange to the tune of USD 185 million. This project will generate direct & indirect employment of about 18 lakh man-days.

- D)A major road infrastructure project – 4 Lane ROB-cum-Flyover at Ranichak, Haldia on NH 41 – will also be dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble PM. This carriageway has been built at the cost of Rs 190 crore. Haldia dock complex is the main gateway for import and export of cargo destined/originating from Eastern and North-Eastern part of country as well as land-locked countries like Nepal and Bhutan. The commissioning of this flyover will result in uninterrupted flow of traffic to and from Kolaghat to Haldia Dock Complex and other surrounding areas. This will result in substantial saving in travel time and operating cost of heavy vehicles plying in and out of the port.
