Sheldon Cooper might be the smartest of the gang in ‘The Big Bang Theory’, but Rick Sanchez will always outsmart the nerdy genius.
Unlike most characters on television that steal our hearts, TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper isn’t remembered for traits like kindness and compassion. He isn’t a good friend either. Leonard Hofstadter was his best friend and roommate, but nothing stopped him from throwing him under the bus.

He is unfazed by others and collectively thinks of his friends as idiots and never really had any empathy towards them. He is brilliant, which makes him a very frustrating character, but like his spot on the sofa, he is incapable of being moved.
It’s the same for Rick Sanchez from ‘Rick and Morty’, the mad scientist who knows all about the universe. His knowledge has rendered him incapable of being bothered by anything, and he thinks of life as a traumatizing and pointless experience.
Like Sheldon, Rick doesn’t make any friends and struggles to keep the ones he has. He dislikes people with authority and government officials, has a pessimistic worldview, and often engages in insane ranting sessions. Like Sheldon, Rick is a bit of a narcissist and is as frustrating as he is brilliant.
Fans of TBBT and ‘Rick and Morty’ have been wondering what would happen if Sheldon met Rick. Who would outsmart whom? How smart is Sheldon Cooper? There are so many questions!
Let’s talk about Sheldon Cooper’s IQ
TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper is the smartest in his group, which doesn’t really come as a surprise to TBBT fans. The theoretical physicist possesses an eidetic memory and an IQ of 187, even though he has often revealed it can’t be measured by tests. The Nobel Prize-winning scientist graduated from college at the age of 14! Sheldon is a socially inept nerd who doesn’t understand sarcasm or social cues, but his eccentric oddities make him hilarious.
He’s the go-to person for everyone’s scientific-related questions and will always go the extra mile to prove someone wrong. He is sometimes outsmarted by the rest of the gang but he possesses vast knowledge in every field. Whether it’s physics, chemistry, or his favourite subject trains, Sheldon knows everything about everything.
His intelligence, obsession with logical reasoning, and routines make it impossible for anyone to be friends with him. Very rarely did Sheldon make a breakthrough where emotional intelligence was concerned, but he has been fascinating nonetheless.
What could happen if TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper and Rick Sanchez met?
All we can say is that their meeting wouldn’t be a pretty or fun one. Rick Sanchez is the science fanatic and genius mad scientist from the animated series ‘Rick and Morty’. He’s probably one of the only fictional characters who could outsmart Sheldon on any given day.
Rick is arguably more intelligent, has created some crazy inventions, and is a time-traveller! He’s everything TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper has dreamed to be but never could be. Rick has an edge over Sheldon but the two scientists share similar approaches towards love and companionship.
Sheldon might be an expert in theoretical physics but Rick is more knowledgeable. Rather than just focusing on what he knows, Rick can transform his crazy theories into reality by making some out-of-the-world inventions from a space cruiser to a time freezer. Need we say more?
The geniuses who might outsmart Sheldon
Fans will never get enough of TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper and the memories he has left us with after the show ended. He made his name as one of television’s most intelligent fictional characters of all time, but this scientist can be outsmarted too.
Rick Sanchez would triumph over any debate with Sheldon, as would Sherlock Holmes and Brian Finch. The detective’s exceptional intellect and deduction skills made it fairly easy for him to solve the toughest cases. He is a well-rounded genius as opposed to Sheldon Cooper and would easily surprise him in conversation.
Everything intelligent about Brian Finch might come from the drug NZT, but it still made him the “smartest man alive”. Fortunately, the character chose to work as an FBI consultant and use his superpower to do some good. The drug unlocks the full potential of the human brain and the character also had to take an immunity shot to deal with the side effects. Sheldon might have an IQ of 187, but how can he win against the smartest man alive?
Is there any other fictional character you believe could outsmart TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper? Let us know in the comments!
