Brie Larson had an uncertain career before ‘Captain Marvel’ came along – though MCU brought her fame – it might have made things worse for her.
Playing Captain Marvel has been one of the biggest feats for Brie Larson. The MCU movie and the character earned her household fame. However, neither fame nor appreciation comes without hard work and setbacks. ‘Captain Marvel’ has been one of the most controversial MCU movies, and not an ounce lesser of a roller coaster ride for Brie Larson.
‘Captain Marvel’ – An opportunity of a lifetime for Brie Larson
When ‘Captain Marvel’ was offered to Brie Larson, she just kicked off a defining phase of her career with her first big-budget movie ‘Kong: Skull Island’, followed by an Academy Award-winning performance in ‘Room’.
Brie revealed in one of her YouTube videos, that she said ‘no’ to Captain Marvel thrice, as she thought it was too big of a responsibility for her. She admits that once she sat at the table with the team and was presented with the idea, she couldn’t help but feel blessed to have the opportunity.
It indeed was an opportunity as Brie describes it as an experience for a lifetime. For the role, Larson gave her heart and soul. In one of the videos shared by the actress during the prep, she was seen pushing a 5000lbs Jeep as part of her training. Larson told ABC News: “I trained for it like it was a triathlon, and it truly felt like an actor’s triathlon.”
‘Captain Marvel’ then went on to earn over a billion $ at the box office, proving to be a dream run for the actress and the studio. A dream run – really?
‘Captain Marvel’ – The most controversial MCU movie and biggest mistake of Brie Larson?
With a 79% of Rotten Tomatoes rating, a 6.9/10 IMDb score, and a 64% Metacritic rating, ‘Captain Marvel’ was no masterpiece. The film faced harsh criticism, and it was Brie Larson who was roasted the most by the fans.
While ‘Captain Marvel went on to earn over a billion dollars, it turned out to be one of the most hated MCU movies.
Brie Larson faced intense heat from the moment she was signed for the role. There’s a good majority that dislikes her for serval things that she has said and done in the past. The majority of Marvel fans didn’t think she was the right fit for the role.
Disney saw heated protests from the fans to recast the role. All of it, while initially was considered insanity, gathered more support and strength when the film turned out to be average. Brie Larson’s performance as Captain Marvel was claimed to be one of the biggest reasons for the film’s lack of competence.
All the heat against Brie Larson for portraying Captain Marvel still burns Twitter and social media every now and then.
Brie leading the future of MCU
Amid all the protests and hatred against Larson portraying Captain Marvel, Disney has kept faith in her. With Marvel announcing ‘Captain Marvel 2’s’ release date at Disney Investor Day Summit in December 2020, it was confirmed that Brie Larson is going to star in ‘Captain Marvel 2‘, and lead MCU phase 4.
With ‘Captain Marvel’ being the biggest opportunity and probably the biggest mistake for Larson at the same time, there’s a lot of drama still on the way with the sequel.
