What made Julie Plec end ‘The Vampire Diaries’ before season 9?
In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, creator Julie Plec talked about ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 9 rumours and why she chose to end the hit CW series. She explained how there were a lot of things that went into the decision to end the series. There were some logistics, some contractual, where she questioned what if this person does not come back, will the show still go to be good? She also questioned if the character does come back, but they do not know until the end?
Apart from logistics, the decision to end ‘The Vampire Diaries’ at the end of season 8 also came down to the story. Plec, along with others, started talking about the ninth season, to see what it feels. She wanted to see what stories they wish to tell or where those stories take them and then if it feels like it should be over, then it should be over. When the writers of ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ were focused on tackling the mythology of sirens, that is when they felt that it is the perfect time to end the iconic series.
“When you look at Siren lore and Siren mythology, the one recurring idea is that they are somehow servants of the devil. We thought, ‘Hmm, we have had the Other Side, we have talked about peace, but we have never talked about what ‘The Vampire Diaries’ version of hell is, so why don’t we get into that’”?
Once they started talking about hell and peace, to them it felt like they were telling those stories, and they are telling the stories about their characters trying to find their ultimate redemption and salvation with the end result being peace or hell. Hence, it certainly felt like the last season.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 9 rumours
Rumours surrounding season 9 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ have been going around for a while, and they suggest a release date of March 2021. Watching talented stars like Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Weasely back in their famous roles is a sight every ‘The Vampire Diaries’ fan wants to witness once again in a possible season 9. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 9 rumours started when a photo of Netflix saying, “New Season Coming March 2021” was floating around the internet.
But it appeared to be photoshopped. A few websites, such as “Viral Cocaine”, have also claimed that a new season will release in March 2021, but there are no sources to back it.
