‘The X-Files’ Season 11: The story so far
‘The X-Files’ Season 11 premiered on 3 January 2018 on FOX. With ten episodes, the season concluded on 21 March 2018. Following newly reinstated FBI agents Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (played by Gillian Anderson), the season 11 storyline picks up exactly from where season 10 left us. The main narrative arc of this season is the hunt for Mulder and Scully’s son William. Scully and Mulder investigate and seek to expose a global conspiracy led by an organization named Syndicate that develops a powerful human-alien hybrid, with the intent of colonizing planet Earth.
When Mulder was 12-years-old, the Syndicate had decided to unite with the Colonists while setting up a plan to save life on earth. However, for this, they would have had to surrender a loved one to the Colonists who would carry out experiments on them, in exchange for an alien fetus. Mulder was chosen by his parents to be given to the Colonists but it was his sister, Samantha, who was chosen by the aliens as they required a young girl to experiment on.
Scully, on the other hand, was abducted by the government and her ovaries were removed for the experiment. However, Scully’s daughter in ‘The X-files’, Emily, who was also an alien hybrid, had a premature death. Mastering a balance between episodic mythology and stand-alone situations, the series essentially became two shows – a mythical drama for the ones caught in the conspiracies and for the rest, a set of experimental poems showcasing our innate fears.

Is it really Mulder and Scully’s baby?
The news of Scully’s infertility was brought to light in the episode “Christmas Carol”. Scully was abducted and her ovaries were extracted to conduct the hybridization experiments. Mulder tried hard to retrieve the ovaries, but alas, it was deemed impossible.
The season 11 premiere reveals that Cigarette Smoking Man had drugged and impregnated Scully with the first “superhuman child“, without her consent, 17 years ago. In season 7, we had seen Scully fall asleep in Cigarette Smoking Man’s car and wake up the next day in bed wearing silk pyjamas, having absolutely no recollection of the other night. When Mulder learns that he wasn’t William’s biological father, the show takes a drastic turn.
William, who has now taken on Mulder’s persona, meets the real Mulder on the dock, where an enraged Mulder shoots him multiple times and kicks him into the water. Mulder now grieves the loss of his own fatherhood. That’s when Scully drops another bomb. She reveals she’s pregnant with Mulder’s child. But, shocking fans to the core, we see William rising from the water, ALIVE!

What possibilities follow after the big revelation?
Like the untimely death of Scully’s daughter in ‘The X-files’ Season 5, the reveal of Scully and Mulder’s baby too created quite a ripple. Although Scully’s pregnancy by Mulder was quite not expected, dropping it at the end turned it into a massive cliffhanger.
But with Gillian Anderson deciding to quit ‘The X-Files’, the question that bugged fans all over the world was, “Will ‘The X-Files’ continue without Scully?” The answer is YES!
Did you know about the tension between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the sets of ‘The X-Files’ in the 90s?
Speaking with “The Hollywood Reporter”, creator Chris Carter assured that the show will be back in some form or the other.
“You will certainly get an answer to the questions that have been doing the rounds for my show”
Said Carter.
When asked about Mulder and Scully’s baby, he said,
“I will confirm it is their child. But I will also confirm Scully has alien DNA. I have stories to tell; there are more files in those drawers”.
There you go, yet another mind-boggling twist.
