The show had two actresses playing different versions of Cinderella.
‘Once Upon A Time’ was a show that took fans on a nostalgic trip to a place peopled with reimagined fairy-tale characters. The plot tended to be sometimes off the mark, but we stayed for the brilliant characters who were formidable, flawed, and fantastic.

But there were still certain things the show did that didn’t seem to make sense. One of them was having two Cinderellas on the show. As in, there were two different actors hired to play the same fairy-tale character of Cinderella, differently. Why did the makers of ‘Once Upon A Time’ have two Cinderellas?
‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 7: A heavy reset
As it so happens, ‘Once Upon A Time’ ran well enough in its early seasons. But many of the lead characters left the show in season 6. This meant that the makers would have to do something different in season 7.
The new — and the show’s last — season then began with a whole new set of things that included a new place, a new villain, and a host of new characters, even a new curse. In the reset, Hyperion Heights is a town under a dark curse and is run by the villain Victoria Belfry. In this season again, the memories of the former Enchanted Forest residents have been erased, and it is up to a young girl called Lucy to make a now grown-up Henry believe that his true love is Cinderella (who is also her mother).
Effectively, Cinderella then plays the lead role in this season.
Why Dania Ramirez plays the new Cinderella
Cinderella had already been a minor character in the earlier seasons of the show and was played by Jessy Schram. With a story arc of her own, the recasting of the character with Dania Ramirez now playing Cinderella made fans wonder how the character will pick off in a major role where it left off.
As it turns out, the show-makers were actually giving a new version of the classic princess.
Said co-showrunner Eddy Kitsis,
“We loved the idea that fairy tales are tales that are told and you can add onto them and you can subtract them and there’s different versions of them”. He went on to add, “We felt like we really didn’t explore Cinderella a lot.”
So there needed to be a new iteration of Cinderella in ‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 7, to take the story forward in a new direction.
